“Can a font change the future?”
Futura is “a new play by Jordan Harrison (known for his ‘fastidious font selections’) about the death of print and, yes, typography.”
It takes place “sometime in the not-so-distant future when people don’t write by hand anymore. Everything is electronic, from shopping lists, to love letters, to world literature. The book as physical object no longer exists, paper has become non-sustainable, and nothing written is secret because “The Company” reads everything. Enter a rogue professor who gives a dangerous lecture on typography. She describes the circumstances that led to the demise of the printed word, a development that might seem far-fetched to some of us now, but one that can only be inevitable if we continue to treat it as fantastical.”
Read more here. And yes, the professor is played by Mia Katigbak, a cousin of mine. :)
